A 2200 acre protected area situated just north of Boston off I-93. There's an off-leash dog park (Sheepfold,) a great view of the city (Wright's Tower,) easy and moderate to challenging hiking trails (Skyline Trail is the most strenuous,) mountain biking, cross country skiing and snowshoeing in the winter, and even a few historic sites such as an MIT research station and a silver mine site. Enter through any of the parking areas on the perimeter, but the place is big enough with over 100 miles of trails that you won't be able to get to everything in a day, or even a week.

Great hiking very close to Boston. Multiple entry points along Route 93. My favorite trail is the skyline trail that has many elevation changes. The kids enjoy going to Wright's Tower, which is an observation tower that has views of Boston. Plenty of different routes to keep you interested. Sheepfold even has an old soapbox style boyscout track that is no longer in use.

Great place for trail walking! You don't realize you're surrounded by busy towns while in the woods, but very convenient for many people. Well maintained and not usually crowded. Tough to get lost. Small location but it uses the area available as best as it can.

Gorgeous, large expanse of wilderness so close to the city is amazing. A true hidden gem. Lots of trails and bike paths, there is a beautiful reservoir if you work your way into the reservation a bit. There is a great tower with views of the city as well as a small cave that kids would love. Part of the reservation butts up against the highway. You can hear the traffic which isn't always so nice. I usually just look at the map and go in the opposite direction.

It is great to see green areas so close to the city. We'll organized hiking trails. Very limited parkjng, so plan ahead before you arrive. However, they are very close to a T Station. Overall, a great place to have a hike and enjoy the nature.
